Mahatma Gandhi once said, “ Be the change you want to see in the world”

Inspired by this quote and looking forward to changing and inspiring the world around us. On the 12th of February, 2016 at 10 a.m, students of Std III and Std IV accompanied by Ms. Genevieve Ribeiro and Ms. Shirley Miranda and the P.T.A. members Mrs. Rinku Jain and Mrs. Khairun Khan visited Asha Daan on an Outreach Program.

There were about 45 orphaned children residing in the premises, some of whom were blind, while some were handicapped. Even though these children, some of them infants were kept in separate care rooms and were looked after by people who cared for them, the children seemed extremely happy when they saw our students.

Our students interacted with all the residing members of Asha Daan including a few aged destitute ladies by singing a few nursery rhymes and songs. The children were overjoyed and even gave some of our students a jubilant high five!

Our students were also privileged to play with some of the handicapped children. While this made our students happy, they were also sad to see the aged ladies just lying on the bed unable to move. The teachers and the P.T.A. members reminded children as to why they must count their blessings daily. The students commented that they would never complain about all the blessings they have in the disguise of parents, a home to live in and a good school with teachers and friends. They also said that they would ensure they all took care of their parents when their parents would be old and aged.

It was indeed a wonderful and enlightening experience for all of us who visited Asha Daan. It helped us to understand why we need to be sensitive to the needs of the under privileged as well as the aged in today’s world.

“Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go”- Mother Teresa
